"I'd love to travel more, meet interesting personalities and capture them in their moment."

Model Citizen App is the platform where we recognised fashion models, photographers, designers, makeup artists, hair stylists, creative directors, bloggers, stylists, and labels around the world.Every day, we feature an individual on Model Citizen Interviews. People get to know each of them- their hopes, challenges, aspirations and inspirations in life.

Phil is an emerging fashion photographer, and takes a lot of pride in his work. We love the inspiration that he draws from his life, and we hope you do too!

How did you get to where you are now in your career?

Tell us something interesting about you, something inspiring. Don't be shy. :)

I always had the feeling I lived in a movie. So I'm very attracted to cinematic images but on the other hand I also like the simple and natural pictures by the photographers featured on C Heads Magazine, B-Authentique or Next Door Model Magazine. Just to name a few. Day to day situations freeze framed sort to speak. I'd love to travel more, meet interesting personalities and capture them in their moment. But I also need to pay the rent at the end of the month, so It's a constant battle between your art and your commercial work. I try to combine the two as much as possible.

Have you taken any photography courses?

I haven't taken any courses. I have a degree in journalism, but everything I know I learned myself. The internet was my teacher, and still is.

What person has been your inspiration in life? Who is your hero?

As mentioned above, I'm mostly influenced by photographers featured in C Heads Magazine. The raw, natural style and color toning is simply breath taking. But for fashion I guess it's Mario Testino's work that really hit the spot for me. In the more artistic category it's probably photographers like Anton Corbijn and William Klein.

Do you feel like you’ve met your goals and are successful?

I'm that type of person that constantly is challenging himself. So I think there will never be a moment in my life that I will rest and say "I can do no more". So lots of ideas to come!

How do you stay inspired?

The internet is a great place to stay inspired. Platforms like Tumblr and Instagram will keep you busy in inspirationless times.

What photography-related tips do you recommend?

Try out some color toning to give that extra magazine look. Learn to handle natural light correctly. It still is the best photography. And please, being a good photoshopper doesn't make you a talented photographer.

What is your favourite camera?

I don't really have a favorite, but I work with Nikon for now. I'd love to buy a Fujifilm to get that extra vintage look.
