Tell us about yourself. At what age did you start becoming fascinated with fashion?

I started sketching when I was 4. I came from a family with a long history in Arts. My grandfather was a calligrapher and my brother is a painter who has served as my mentor, They both exposed me into the beauty of conceptual arts. When I was in high school days, I am inspired to create something that I dont usually see in the boutiques and I would express my ideas in my drawings.

How did you prepare for a career in styling?

Years back, I started my career working in luxury brands when I graduated from College. I've worked for fashion retail for how many years as a Merchandise Manager. Planning and executing concepts for visual was my main responsibility, I've learned so much in the fashion Industry, especially the business side of it. Being in the team of creative, I had able to develop my skills combined with the love for fashion, Its always a continuous process to learn new things and fully understand the essence of it.

How do you stay updated on the current trends?

Sometimes I would look up whats new in the market online. But I don't really follow trends, I usually detach myself from the formalities of fashion. I like things that are unique with eye catching details and rare.

How do you view Fashion Weeks?

Fashion Week is important when your in the fashion Industry. To designers, its a huge opportunity to showcase your work and share your talents to the audience. Fashion Week is also some sort of expressing your ideas to connect and engage more.

What are your plans for the future? Where do you see yourself taking your designing career?

I wanted to be a lawyer when I was a kid. Over the years, the idea have changed and had lead to the desire of becoming a fashion designer. But the unexpected turn surprised my family when I decided to take and completed a degree in Business. But the love of arts and fashion remained, when I spent years working in fashion retail to starting an online creative hub (La Tou Tou ) with my long time friend. And now, working on my first foray (my label, Maricar Tuazon) in the world of design without having a degree in fashion is a sort of self justification that art is really "my cup of tea"

What other organisations are you a part of?

Besides from being the Creative Director of Maricar Tuazon- Currently, I am also a Co-Founder of a platform called La Tou Tou, A creative hub for designers who value the beauty and sustainability.- Only one thing came to my mind when we created La Tou Tou, the main intention is to bring and introduce the amazing work of group of talented women artisans to the market and empower them by providing a source of livelihood which has always been one of my goals. Together with my team, we will deliver what the brand (Maricar Tuazon ) has/ really means to offer- Creating pieces and collection that revolve around the theme of femininity & strength....and keeping things interesting.

Name the top three things in your designing kit that are must-haves?

Pins, Clips and Tissue Paper.

Tell us your most unforgettable experience as a designer?

My unforgettable experience as a stylist is when I did my first look book. I didnt want to spend money on styling so I did it myself, and the team whos working with me were somehow happy with the results.

Who is your favorite all-time designer?

Alexander Mc Queen - Im a big fan of his provocative and iconic concepts of designs. Every piece reflects a very strong and emotional feeling that seems to come from incomparable energy. His humble beginning serves as an inspiration to the all start up designers. Tonya Hawkes - With her, creativity has no boundaries, her pieces are absolutely wearable art.
